“ Food was delicious! Beer and wine were great! Service was brilliant - the waitress Jo was friendly and helpful. Really nice atmosphere and they had live music on aswell. All in all a lovely evening! Oh and very reasonably priced! ”
“ Went for Sunday lunch with a friend. Although they were heavily booked when we phoned they fitted us in. When we arrived, just after 1pm it was quiet but by 2pm it was filling right up so an early table might be the best option if you leave it to the last minute to book We both chose the lamb roast and it arrived quickly and the portions were large. They gave us extra gravy, as requested, and didn’t charge for it as some places have in the past. The mint sauce was lovely and so thick is was almost solid. The food was very flavoursome and cooked perfectly, the lamb was beautifully tender and there was lots of it. My only criticism was that the food was a little cold and the door to the garden area was open which caused the food to cool down quicker than would be ideal. Nonetheless I’m a fast eater and the food was lovely throughout. My friend had the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for desert and I had a large white coffee which was full flavoured and potent. Just what I needed. At under 20 per head it was excellent value for money. Service was quick and spot on. ”
“ Visited tonight and had the beef short rib, halibut, Korean BBQ ribs and popcorn cockles. Didn't stop to get a photo of the starters! All of the food was great and very generous portions too. Great service and a really clean and airy space that has been decorated beautifully by the new owners ... ”
“ Really good roasts! Four of us met for Sunday roast and were really impressed with the lunches and in particular the value for money! The cuts of meat were really thick, great quality veg and Yorkshire pudding and the sauces were fab too. The sides were great too but the stuffing was maybe just a little dry and crumbly (we still ate them mind you, that's probably picking hairs!) Definitely be back at some point soon. -- Went back again! Again, the food was superb (my katsu curry was delicious!) but they all looked fantastic. Jo and Tony were really attentive and friendly while we were eating. Will no doubt be back soon again! Thanks team. ”
“ I had Saturday lunch here with my husband and we were served by Cath and Klaudia. The food was amazing, melt in your mouth. I had the bbq brisket ciabatta and hubs had the wagyu beef burger. Good value for money and the service was fast, really nice bright and airy vibe, will be coming again! ”
“ We stayed here overnight in the motorhome. Food was wonderful and service fantastic. A quiet night hence 4* for atmosphere. Otherwise 5* all the way. Thank you Kerri and Lily. If we are working in Stevenage again soon we will pay the George a return visit ”
“ What can we say about the beautiful G & D and it's amazing staff? Lots!! We decided to book the pub for our wedding reception and we are so glad we did! From start to finish, we had a fantastic experience. The communication regarding the arrangements was always prompt and knowledgeable. A couple of months before the wedding we went for a taster evening, which was free of charge and we got to try all the foods we were picking from for our wedding buffet. The food was delicious and beautifully presented and they even gave us a glass of prosecco; we were very impressed and happy we had made the right choice of venue. On the day, the staff were really prompt in closing and cleaning the pub and getting set up for the evening. They arranged things exactly as we had requested and absolutely nothing was too much trouble. The food on the evening drew lots of compliments from our guests on the delicious dishes and presentation and there was more than enough food for everyone. The bar staff worked tirelessly all evening and our guests commented on how chatty and friendly they were. At the end of the night, they packed away all our decorations ready to be collected the next day. We had a wonderful evening celebrating and this was in no small part due to the lovely G & D staff. We would highly recommend the pub for any celebration as they definitely went the extra mile to make our day special. Huge thanks to Kerri and Jo for their organisation and help and to Jess and the other bar staff on the day and not forgetting to mention the great chefs. Thank you all for our amazing memories xx ”
“ We were well looked after by Nadia, who was attentive but not intrusive. The food was very tasty and high quality. A bit of a wait but only because it is freshly prepared and cooked to order which ensures the quality. Would highly recommend. ”
